Such professionals claimed that the author, Doyle Brunson alongside his team: Bobby Baldwin, David Reese, Joey Hawthorne, David Sklansky & Mike Caro, disclosed more information than professionally necessary and hence, enabled weak players to catch up with them. There seems to be an iota of truth in there because poker comprise of newly developed games as more players get to understand the intrigues of the earlier and existent ones. Once the winning strategies of a game become widely known, that has to make way for new ones to evolve to keep the game in existence. Doyle Brunson, nicknamed Texas Dolly, included important games like Seven Card Stud and Hold’em in his book but discussed Hold’em in length. The collection of poker’s world class professionals that jointly contributed in several ways stand enabled the book to stand out from the rest. Immediately Doyle Brunson’s Super/System was published, it ruled the world owing to the writers’ prestige, class & expertise especially the principal author, Texas Dolly. Other world champions in Bobby Baldwin; the book’s Seven Card Stud expert, David Reese (popularly called Chip); Joey Hawthorne, the Low Ball Pro; highly experienced David Sklansky on Hi-Lo; and the master of Draw Poker called Mike Caro. All these individuals are players of honor as they have contributed immensely to the world of poker. The likes of Sklansky and Mike Caro (popularly referred to as The Mad Genius, America’s Mad Genius, and Gambling’s Mad Genius) early in their careers were experts in Low Ball, Draw Poker & Jacks or Better before going on to become awesome poker authors. Aside from winning three WSOP bracelets, Sklansky is a great theoretician while Caro (founder of the University of Poker) has since developed into a master strategist. The book also covers games like No Limit Hold’em, Five Card Draw, etc without revealing some of the tricks involved. In the Seven Card Stud, contributed by Reese, many issues were not explained. The strategy required for winning in the right hands was perfect but intensive concepts needed for making more money were concealed. Doyle Brunson in his book compared world championship limit poker with that featured in clubs as well as the no limit poker played by professionals, which requires the use of psychology. He explains in details the manner in which manipulate their strategies into winning big after the loss of a small pot in addition to the mindset it takes to bet millions of dollars or even act otherwise. Other amazing & important concepts used by the authors include Stan Hunt’s brilliant pictures, Mike Caro’s ideas of odds, etc. |
