Phil Gordon is an accomplished poker professional player with a number of money finishes and a World Poker Tour title. In his book, he reveals those ‘secret strategies’ behind his success in various tournaments.

As a genius in Hold’em events, Phil Gordon describes the betting rounds that comprise hold’em beginning with the entire principles of poker and ending with various issues among which is poker mathematics, tells, psychology, tournament considerations, and positions. Organized in a comprehensible form, the book contains a superb writing style that enabled the author to flow from a topic to another. Gordon was able to hammer on all of the game’s aspect irrespective of the book’s lack of a whole extensive coverage in comparison to other books.

The book lays its emphasis on No Limit Hold’em games with much of the information therein applicable to tournament games, which is to a large extent reasonable considering Phil Gordon’s expertise in these games. Nevertheless, the book contains several concepts that could also suit cash games, which could equally be useful for players whose preference lay on non-tournament games. Don’t hesitate to grab a copy; it’s worthwhile as it’s capable of suiting every player.

Phil Gordon, in his book, honestly made no secret of playing style of which he explains his reasons for using those strategies. Apart from teaching the reader winning strategies, the reader also learns how to think, thereby making timely decisions that will overwhelm the opponent. Occasionally, Gordon wasn’t necessarily precise, used long tenses but those places are minor and when compared with the entire worth of the material used. There is no doubt the book is excellent anyway.

In as much as the author’s strategies on No Limit Hold’em are wonderful, the material tends to make more sense to players with some level of experience other than beginners. It’s likely for players with advanced experience to see familiar strategies in the book, they’ll however certainly learn a few more tricks, and concepts required for tackling situations and hence, would appreciate the quality of the book.
