A good poker player is aware of the roles that luck, mathematics, and subterfuge play in order to win. But the mathematics of poker has been an issue redressed by a number of authors over the last twenty years while research has been on for some time to determine a player’s ability to study an opponent and at the same time conceal his own tells.

The publication of Joe Navarro’s book, which tackles more of a player’s body communication, has been met with open arms. The author has successfully achieved his aim in this regard in addition to revealing some other invaluable strategies.

Joe Navarro reveals that a combination of mathematics and behavior analysis is important for a player to emerge winner. An ex-FBI counter-intelligence officer, Joe Navarro is a specialist of non-verbal communication. He is an expert reader of a person’s behavior who ascertains whether someone acts naturally or otherwise. In his book titled ‘Phil Hellmuth’s Presents Read ‘Em and Reap: A Career FBI Agent's Guide to Decoding Poker Tells’ the author provides foolproof methods that will enable players to read their opponents’ body language as well as other possible sign languages. In explaining his concepts, the author drives home his point using poker top professional – Phil Hellmuth.

Phil Hellmuth’s Presents Read ‘Em and Reap: A Career FBI Agent's Guide to Decoding Poker Tells is a doubtless book of tells, which offers so much except for some information there that do not exist in real life’s poker. The author had excellent information revealed, which renders every other book on poker tells inferior especially for advanced poker players. For beginners, the recommended book on tells is that authored by Mike Caro as it lays down the basic principles of reading an opponent’s behavior but players with some amount of experience should consider reading this book as it continues to teach about reading tells.

Joe Navarro discussed at length the standard position, which enables players to tell of opponents in their natural state. Players would need a great deal of observation to determine if an opponent is playing under pressure or otherwise. The author completes the book with ways on how a player could improve his observation skills. In my candid opinion, the book outlined some materials that Mike Caro didn’t. irrespective of a player’s level of professionalism, Joe Navarro book goes a step further in changing the perspective of players towards the game.
