Phil Hellmuth Jr. is a poker genius who was born on 16th July, 1964 in Madison, Wisconsin. His rise to the top of his game was also not without some disappointments. One of such times was when he dropped out of the University of Wisconsin to pursue his career in poker. Known within poker circles as “The Poker Brat,” Phil Hellmuth was equally well known for his perceived pride and ego; which was an attitude that peers and other poker competitors learnt to put up with.

All the same, he was well respected for his brilliant poker skills and excellent style of play.

These and more were the playing attributes he earned early on as a result of hard work and dedication.
Phil’s undeniable poker prowess was one of the factors that led him to become the youngest winner of the game’s global tournament in 1989 when he beat Johnny Chan to the prize. Chan was the erstwhile champion of the World Series of Poker Main Event for the 2 previous years before Hellmuth who was then 24 years old, dethroned him that year. From then on, Hellmuth began piling up his poker achievements with one major tournament win after another. He had gone on to win eight additional World Series of Poker bracelets; all of which came from competitions in Texas Hold’em.

His successes took him to the peak of poker tournaments on the international stage as he won The Late Night Poker in Great Britain including The World's Biggest Seven-card Stud Tournament in Austria. In 1996, Phil’s colleagues voted him for him to clinch the title of the Best All-Round Tournament Poker Player of the world. Hellmuth has his enviable streak of wins. As a result, the poker icon has amassed a basketful of 50 major poker tournament titles from 1996 to date.

Outside the gaming halls of poker, Hellmuth has found ways of bringing in the money. He has worked on ways to make an estimated $400 million per year from other sources. As the owner of 3 poker bestsellers, Hellmuth has also authored an autobiography with the title “Poker Brat.” The 3 books are titled Bad Beats and Lucky Draws, Texas Hold’em and Play Poker like the Pros. In addition, he is into a project on developing designer sunglasses in signature series together with a clothing line. Others include an instructional video on how to succeed in poker, a brand name cell phone game and a chip set. Entertainment networks are also part of his agenda on raising his profile worldwide.
