The world of poker pays tribute to a Legend known as Doyle Brunson. Born on August 10, 1933, Doyle Branson is one of the few professional poker players who played the game of cards for over 50 years. Indeed, the Whole of Las Vegas among other major gambling centers celebrates the playing days of Doyle Brunson.

 The iconic poker player has many records to his name including the 1st professional champion to win the World Series of Poker Main Event back-to-back. Doyle Brunson is boldly written on the list of Poker Legends.

Texas Dolly, his nickname, was born in Longworth, Texas. He was to start a career in athletics but a knee injury hampered his continuity after which he switched to academics, later bagging a degree in Business Administration. While training as an athlete, Doyle Brunson was involved in poker until he sustained an injury. Luckily for him, he used the money realized from playing five card draw for settling his bills. After his studies, he secured a job as a salesman but his first day at work was to be the turning point. He won a seven-card stud game based on an invitation earning much more than his salary in less than 3 hours.

Doyle actually started competing against more experienced players on Exchange Street in Texas’s For Worth. He, alongside Dwayne Hamilton, Amarillo Slim and Sailor Roberts was involved in illegal games from Texas to Oklahoma to Louisiana. They moved on from place to place playing poker together as professional partners until they all decided to go solo in Las Vegas. The Legendary Doyle Brunson has been playing in the world’s biggest poker tournaments including poker games at Bellagio.

Doyle Brunson’s achievements include his 9th gold bracelet in a mixed poker game, 2003; in the no-limit Texas Hold’em Championship event, he ended 54th; a joint record holder of having 10 gold bracelets barely one week after Johnny Chan smashed that record, just one more would see him tie with Phil Hellmuth's; and finished 4th in the first ever WTP championship event to mention a few. Statistics has it that Doyle Brunson’s total tournament earnings are well in excess of $5,000,000 in 2008.

An amazing thing about Doyle Brunson’s immediate family is that his son and daughter are now professional poker players. Todd has a bracelet from the World Series of Poker Championship in 2005 where he featured in High-Low Omaha. Both Doyle and his son, Todd, were the first ever Father-Son combo to claim bracelets at the WSOP tournaments. Doyle’s daughter, Pamela, participated in the 2007 WSOP Main Event and even going farther than her father and brother.
